Cove is a calm, sensory-friendly app made for autistic children. We built Cove to be a private, offline-first space — your child’s experience is not tracked, sold, or shared.
This policy is written for the parents and caregivers who set Cove up. Your child uses Cove; you make the decisions about it.
We do not collect or store any of the following from you or your child:
The child profile information you enter during setup — name, age band, sensory preferences, daily routines, feelings check-ins, favourites — is stored only in the app’s memory on your device. It is not transmitted anywhere. When the app is closed or uninstalled, that information is gone.
Cove is designed with the spirit of COPPA (US), the UK Age-Appropriate Design Code, and similar children’s-privacy frameworks in mind. The child-facing side of Cove contains:
If we ever change this, we will update this policy and tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
Cove shows advertisements only on Parent Zone screens — the dashboard, settings, insights, guides library, and guide articles. Parent Zone is reachable only after a tap-and-hold gate, which is intended for an adult to operate.
To serve these ads, we use Google AdMob. AdMob is a Google service that may receive a limited set of information from the device when an ad is loaded or shown, including:
Cove requests non-personalised ads only, which limits the data AdMob uses for targeting. You can reset or limit the advertising identifier at any time in your device’s settings. For full details of how Google handles ad data, see Google’s Privacy & Terms at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
No advertising data is associated with your child’s profile, because no profile leaves the device.
The only third-party service Cove uses is Google AdMob, and only in Parent Zone. All other features — audio playback, text-to-speech, fonts, animations, illustrations — run on-device and do not call external servers.
Cove does not request access to the camera, microphone, contacts, photos, location, calendar, or notifications. The device’s built-in text-to-speech engine is used for the AAC board’s “Speak” button; the spoken text is processed on-device by your operating system and is not sent to Cove or to any third party.
All app state — child profile, routines, sensory preferences, favourites, feelings tracking — is held in memory only and is lost when the app is closed. Cove does not currently persist any of your data to disk or to the cloud. Audio and image assets are bundled with the app and do not need to be downloaded.
If a future version of Cove adds on-device persistence (so the app remembers your settings between launches), this policy will be updated before the change ships, and the persisted data will still stay on your device.
If we ever change how Cove handles data, we will update this policy and bump the “Last updated” date at the top. Significant changes will be flagged in the app the next time you open Parent Zone.
