Privacy Policy for Talking Cactus

This Privacy Policy describes how the “Talking Cactus” mobile application (“the App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use it. By downloading or using the App you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide (audio)

The App records short voice clips through your device microphone so the on-screen cactus can play them back to you. Recording only starts when you tap the cactus in Talking mode, and stops when you tap again or after one minute. These recordings:

• Are saved only on your device, in the App’s private temporary storage.
• Are overwritten each time you make a new recording.
• Are never uploaded, transmitted, shared, or sent to any server controlled by us or any third party.
• Are not included in Android device backups.
• Are deleted when you uninstall the App.

We do not have access to your voice recordings.

1.2 Information collected automatically (advertising)

The App shows banner, full-screen (interstitial) and app-open advertisements served by Google AdMob. To deliver and measure ads, AdMob and Google may automatically collect:

• A device advertising identifier (e.g., Android Advertising ID).
• Approximate location derived from your IP address.
• Device information (model, OS version, language, country).
• App interaction data related to ads (impressions, clicks).
• Diagnostic information about how ads load and perform.

Google’s ads software does not start, and Google’s ad measurement does not begin, until the consent step described in Section 4 has completed. All ads in the App are limited to content rated suitable for general audiences (G).

We do not directly collect or store any of this information ourselves. It is collected by Google in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy and the “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services” page.

2. Permissions We Request

On Android these appear as declared permissions:

• RECORD_AUDIO — to capture the voice clip you want the cactus to play back. Recording only happens when you tap the cactus in Talking mode.
• INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — required by Google AdMob to load and display advertisements.
• AD_ID (com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID) — lets Google’s ads software read the device advertising identifier.
• ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_ATTRIBUTION, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_TOPICS — let Google’s ads software use Android’s Privacy Sandbox advertising features where your device supports them.
• WAKE_LOCK, FOREGROUND_SERVICE — used by Google’s ads software to finish short ad-related background tasks. The App itself has no background features.

You can revoke the microphone permission at any time in your device Settings. The Talking feature will stop working, but the rest of the App will continue to function.

3. Children’s Privacy

The App is intended for a general audience aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13: the App has no accounts or sign-in, and voice recordings never leave the device.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the App, please contact us using the details in Section 8 and we will help to have it removed.

4. Advertising Choices and Consent

For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, the App uses Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) to present a consent form when the App starts, before any ads are requested. Through that form you can choose whether your information may be used for personalized ads.

If you are shown this form, an “Ad privacy” button appears on the App’s main screen so you can review or change your choice at any time.

Where US state privacy laws apply, you can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising by using the device settings below or by contacting us.

You can also reset or opt out of personalized advertising at the device level:

• Android: Settings → Google → Ads → “Delete advertising ID” (on older versions, “Opt out of Ads Personalization”).

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent any information. The only third party that receives information from your use of the App is Google (AdMob), and only for the purposes described in Section 1.2.

6. Data Retention

• Voice recordings: stored on your device only and overwritten with each new recording; removed entirely when you uninstall the App.
• Your ad-consent choice: stored on your device by Google’s consent software. If Android backup is turned on, Android may include this setting in your device backup.
• Advertising data: retained by Google according to its own retention policies.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal information about you. Because we do not collect or store personal information ourselves, most requests should be directed to Google. We will assist where we are able.

9. Changes to This Policy
