Privacy Policy for Bibo
Effective date: 10 June 2026
Last updated: 6 July 2026
Bibo (“the app,” “we,” “us”) is a speech-therapy play app for children. We take your child’s privacy seriously and have designed the app so that personal information stays on the device whenever possible.
This Privacy Policy explains what limited information the app handles, why, and what choices you have. By using Bibo, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please uninstall the app.
1. Who this policy is for
Bibo is intended for use by children, with the supervision and consent of a parent or legal guardian. The decision to install and use Bibo is made by the parent or guardian, who is the responsible adult for the purposes of this policy.
2. What information we DO NOT collect
We want to be specific about this, because for a child app it matters most:
- We do not create accounts or require sign-in.
- We do not ask for or store your email address, phone number, address, or any other contact information about your child.
- We do not record, upload, or store audio of your child’s voice.
- We do not transmit your child’s name, age, progress, sticker collection, or any other personally identifying information to any server controlled by us.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your child’s information with data brokers.
- We do not include third-party analytics, behaviour tracking, or advertising SDKs in the parts of the app used by children.
3. What information stays on the device
The following information is stored locally on the device, never transmitted:
- The child’s first name (entered by you during onboarding)
- The child’s approximate age (entered by you)
- Interests and a starting-level preference (entered by you)
- Sensory and accessibility preferences (volume, animation level, font, etc.)
- Progress: which sounds, words, syllables, combinations, and sentences the child has practised and mastered
- Session minutes (a counter of in-app practice time per day)
- A list of “wins” (e.g. “Finished Sound Pairs”) for the Recent Wins view
All of the above is stored in the app’s private storage on the device and is deleted when the app is uninstalled. You can clear it at any time from Parent → Settings → Reset learning progress or Restart onboarding.
4. Microphone and speech recognition
Bibo uses the device’s microphone during speech practice so the app can react when your child attempts a sound or word. Speech recognition is performed on-device by the operating system’s built-in speech recogniser (Google Speech Services on Android, Apple Speech on iOS). Audio is processed locally and never sent to Bibo’s servers (we do not operate any servers).
The third-party speech-recognition service is part of the operating system and is governed by its own privacy terms (Google’s or Apple’s, depending on the device).
You can revoke microphone permission at any time from your device’s settings; speech-practice exercises will then degrade gracefully into “I did it!” self-report buttons.
5. PDF progress reports
When you tap Download PDF report in the Parent Area, Bibo generates a PDF locally on your device using the operating system’s print-to-PDF feature. This file contains progress notes (sessions, minutes, mastered skills) and the child’s first name and age — never voice recordings. The PDF is saved to your device’s app storage and you can then share it manually via the share sheet (email, messaging, AirDrop, etc.). What happens to the PDF after you share it is your choice and is governed by the receiving app’s policies.
6. Advertising (Parent Area only)
Bibo displays advertising only inside the Parent Area, which is gated by a press-and-hold parent gate. The part of the app your child uses contains no ads of any kind.
Ads in the Parent Area are served by Google AdMob. To serve ads, AdMob may collect technical information such as device identifiers (Advertising ID), IP address, country, and broad ad-interaction events. We have configured AdMob to request non-personalised ads only, which limits the data Google uses for ad targeting.
AdMob’s data practices are described in Google’s Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
You can opt out of personalised advertising or reset your Advertising ID from your device’s system settings (“Privacy” → “Ads” on most devices).
7. In-app purchases (optional tips)
Bibo is free, and every feature is available to everyone — there is no paid version, subscription, or locked content. Inside the Parent Area (behind the press-and-hold parent gate) there is an optional “Support Bibo” tip jar: a small, voluntary tip to thank the developer that unlocks nothing.
Tips are processed entirely by Google Play using Google Play Billing. We never see or store your payment details (such as card numbers or billing address), and we do not collect any financial or payment information. Google’s handling of your payment is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
8. Children’s privacy — COPPA, GDPR-K, and similar laws
We have designed Bibo to comply with children’s privacy laws including the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (Article 8 — children), the UK Age-Appropriate Design Code, and Saudi Arabia’s Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL).
Specifically:
- No personal information about the child is collected by us or transmitted off the device.
- Information you enter about the child (name, age, interests) stays on-device.
- Advertising is shown only to parents in a gated section of the app.
- Speech recognition is processed by the device operating system, not by us.
If you believe your child’s information has been handled in a way that does not match this policy, please contact us at the address below and we will investigate promptly.
9. Data retention and deletion
Because everything is stored on the device, you control retention completely:
- Uninstalling the app deletes all stored information.
- Parent → Settings → Reset learning progress clears progress, sessions, and wins immediately.
- Parent → Settings → Restart onboarding clears the profile.
10. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR, CCPA, KSA PDPL, etc.), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your child’s information. Because we do not store or transmit any of this information to our servers, these rights are exercised directly through the app’s own controls (see Section 9) and by uninstalling the app.
11. Third-party services
Bibo relies on the following third-party software components. Each is governed by its own privacy policy:
- Operating system (Android / iOS): microphone, speech recognition, text-to-speech, file storage, share sheet, print-to-PDF
- Google AdMob (Parent Area only): https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Google Play Billing (optional tips in the Parent Area): payment processing; https://policies.google.com/privacy
We do not use any third-party analytics, crash reporting, attribution, or behaviour-tracking SDKs.
12. Security
Information stored on the device is protected by the device’s own security features (lock screen, OS-level app sandboxing, encrypted storage on most modern devices). No system is perfectly secure; we encourage you to keep your device updated and protected with a lock screen.
13. International users
Bibo can be downloaded worldwide. Because we do not collect or transmit personal information, no international data transfers take place at our end. Your device’s operating system and any third-party services you use (e.g. the share sheet) may transfer data according to their own policies.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top and, for significant changes, post a notice inside the Parent Area. Continued use of the app after a change indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
15. Contact
If you have questions or concerns about this policy or your child’s privacy, please email:
